Loretta is member of The Authors Guild, National Federation of Press Women, SouthWest Writers, the New Mexico Book Co-op, New Mexico Press Women, and the Historical Society of New Mexico's Speakers Bureau. She is certified as a Space Ambassador for the National Space Society and as a Green Building Technical Professional.

Her book Out of this World: New Mexico's Contributions to Space Travel won the New Mexico History category and was co-winner of the "Best New Mexico Book" designation in the 2011 New Mexico Book Awards. In 2012, the book also won first place in the General Nonfiction Book category of the New Mexico Press Women's Communications Contest and third place in the same category from the National Federation of Press Women.

Her book Space Pioneers: In Their Own Words won the Science category of the 2014 New Mexico - Arizona Book Awards and was named Best Book of the contest. Space Pioneers received a Gold Medal in the History category from the Military Writers Society of America in September 2019.

Loretta's seventh book, The Complete Space Buff's Bucket List: 100 Space Things to Do before You Die, was published in January 2016. It won the Travel Book category of the 2016 New Mexico - Arizona Book Awards.

Her eighth book, Miguel and Michelle Visit Spaceport America, was published in April 2017. It won the Young Reader's category of the 2017 New Mexico - Arizona Book Awards.

Loretta's ninth book is Higher, Faster, Longer: My Life in Aviation and My Quest for Spaceflight. Loretta worked with legendary Wally Funk to record Wally's memoir of a glass-ceiling-breaking aviation career, an adventurous life, and a six-decade-long pursuit of spaceflight that may still happen!

The tenth book is an adaptation of Wally's story for elementary and middle school students. Co-author Janet Ivey Duensing made Higher Faster Longer: Aviator Extraordinaire a delightful adventure story that youngsters can use to inspire their own life adventure.
